Newton OS running on the iPhone via emulation

Absolutely brilliant. Really cool to see where it all started.

For those unfamiliar with Newton, here is an excerpt from Wikipedia:

Newton OS was the operating system for the Apple Newton PDAs produced by Apple from 1993-1997. Newton OS was written entirely in C++ and trimmed to be low power consuming and use the available memory efficiently. Similar to the original Apple Macintosh, many applications were written in the ROM of the Newton to save DRAM and flash space for user applications.

iOS 4.1 fixes iPhone 3g bugs

For all of you running the ios 4.0 on your iPhone 3g, rejoice! The new update shows itself to be speedier and to help with the lag in the UI. Its due to come out next week.

Neither was present at the keynote, but after seeing the video and discussing what appeared to happen, both agreed separately that the iPhone 4 was having trouble. Belanger said, “It seems more like there’s something funky with the iPhone software.” Kearney said, “My experience in the wireless space leads me to believe that there may be a bug in the firmware or the driver for the WiFi chip in the iPhone 4.” (Kearney and his group provided advice for the iPhone and iPod touch engineers, and he consulted with Apple’s WiFi chipmaker on the chip in question.)
